A City on the Rise
With lower cost of living, higher employment rates and future development plans, Columbus has been a city on the rise. Major retailers such as L Brands and Victoria Secret, along with 150 other retailers have moved to Columbus over the past few years making it possible for Columbus city wages to rise 6.2%. Recently the city was awarded a $50 million dollar grant for the Smart City Challenge along with $90 million the city had raised to implement modern transportation such as self driving cars, and electric city cars.
Making the Midwest Cool
There is no part of the city you can’t get to within 30 minutes or less. Downtown Columbus offers access to a variety of neighborhood pockets such as the Arena District, Short North, Franklinton, Grandview Yard and more. Residents of apartments such as Flats on Vine, Flats II, and Arena Crossing have a variety of restaurants, bars, movie theaters, concert venues and an Arena all within walking distance. Parks Edge, a high end condominium development will have window views and easy access to the Scioto Mile. Other developments such as 828 at the Yard condominiums and Apartments at the Yard are located right in the center of Grandview Heights, which provides residents an easy access to the urban lifestyle of Columbus with a suburban surrounding.
Things to do in Columbus
Wherever you’re staying in Columbus, you’re going to have a great trip. The world-class Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a delight any time of year (check out the new polar bear and tiger cubs this summer!). Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens brings horticulture and art together with a spectacular glasshouse, a stunning community garden campus and sculpture sprinkled throughout. The Columbus Museum of Art just added a new modern art wing, complete with sunny galleries and an outdoor sculpture garden. COSI mixes science and fun for kids and adults. New parks, like the Scioto Mile, connect the city to nature, and dozens of miles of multi-use trails span Columbus.
If you’re more of a sporty type, you’ll find professional and collegiate games and matches all year long. From Columbus Crew SC to the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets to the MLB AAAColumbus Clippers, you’re going to find something to cheer for. Find great brand-name shopping at Easton Town Center and Polaris Fashion Place or peruse the boutiques of the Short North Arts District, Grandview and German Village.
With a cultural scene to rival any in the nation, you have your pick of live music, art exhibitions, concerts and theater. And be sure to grab a cup of coffee, because you’re going to want to stay out late.
